1) What is a category?
A category is like a shelf in your store. It groups products so customers can find them faster.
- Good categories reduce “Where do I find this?” questions.
- They can appear in your storefront navigation (depending on your theme).
2) Create a category
- Open Categories (name may vary).
- Click Add category.
- Fill the Name.
- Optional: choose a Parent category to create a hierarchy.
- Click Save.
3) Build a hierarchy (parent → child)
Use parent/child categories when you have many products.
- Parent: Electronics
- Child: Phones
- Child: Laptops
Tip: keep the hierarchy simple. 1–2 levels is usually enough.
4) Reorder categories
Depending on your interface, you may be able to drag & drop categories or use arrows to change the order.
After reordering, check your storefront: Themes & storefront.
5) Assign products to a category
- Open Products.
- Open a product.
- In Category, select the right category.
- Click Save.
6) Hide or delete a category
- If you don’t want customers to see it, set the category to Inactive (if available).
- To delete: you may need to remove products from that category first.
7) If you can’t access Categories
If you don’t see Categories in the menu, it may not be enabled for your store or your role doesn’t have permission.
